Philipp Gorbachev
Philipp Gorbachev, that tall, black maned, young and rocking Russian, recently joined the Cómeme fold. Back in time he met Rebolledo in Moscow, who got interested in his music and attitude. Few months later, introduced to the label, Philipp Gorbachev became a constant presence in the crew’s outfit, consistently developing his force as DJ and producer. After moving to Berlin, he teamed up with Matias Aguayo for the newest Cómeme live bands, Isaac Johan and the District Union. His first solo 12'' released in September 2011 on Cómeme is called “In the Delta” and tells a story about hanging out in the primordial age of music. Already carrying a bunch of show experiences behind him, expect more dates to look forward to as well as new collaboration cuts to be released. Be prepared!

Magazine
Magazine (Barnt, Crato and Jens-Uwe Beyer) will inaugurate their "incredible raw, atmospheric house, proto-techno and synth experiments" (Boomkat) live beginning in 2012, ideally within the context of a Magazine label night / stage. For such an event, members Barnt and/or Crato can present a Dj (club)set and/or Jens-Uwe Beyer can perform an ambient live set. Any other thinkable combination with the other artists from the label Magazine is encouraged (Cologne Tape, Loops Of Your Heart, etc.). Magazine can also provide accompanying visuals. Barnt, Crato and Jens-Uwe Beyer set up the Cologne-based label Magazine in 2010. "Magazine is probably one of the freshest, most exciting labels around at the moment. Barely a year old and with only four releases under its belt, this Cologne-based outfit, set up to release tracks made by the organisers and their friends, has nonetheless caused quite a stir with its taut and precise yet richly complex output. From Kraftwerk-esque synth odysseys, via Krautrock-influenced drum megaliths and gracefully skittering electronics, right on through to deep house and hardened techno, it wears its Rheinish heart on its sleeve." – Add Void, London

Barnt
Barnt is one third of Magazine, the label/group/collective/depot/archive that "has caused quite a stir with its taut and precise yet richly complex output" since it was set up in 2010. Also being a core member of the collective Cologne Tape (other members include Crato, Jens-Uwe Beyer, Jörg Burger, The Field, Philipp Janzen of Von Spar et al.), Barnt is a key figure in the musical output of the label. His debut EP 'What Is A Number, That A Man May Know It?' from 2010 became an instant modern kosmische classic. Moreover, Boomkat oracled these tracks „could be killer DJ tools in the right hands“. And this is exactly what happened, with the (now sold out) record being played by the more sophisticated Djs including Four Tet, Caribou, Dixon, Optimo, Finn Johannsen, James Holden, etc.   The surprising dancefloor effectiveness of his tracks that are at the same time so freewheeling makes more sense if you know the "pre-Magazine" Barnt. A long time dance DJ who has shaped his technical skills in the scratch scene a long time ago, Barnt has been known to Rheinish insiders as one of the most original, open-minded and skilled dance Djs from the area. Barnt performs live and as a DJ. With unbelievable contributions coming up from both Magazine and Cómeme, Kompakt booking is thrilled to add Barnt to its roster!

Nhar
Electronic music is a secret and complex art: It lives on chaos and paradoxes, clashed histories and dark sides. So is Nhar’s musical algorithm. Coming from the flourishing southern techno scene, the artist has developed a personal universe on the fringes of techno and minimal house on labels such as Modélisme, Mobilee, Plak or Correspondant. This sphere of activities takes us back to several legacies including, first of all, the original scene, which served as a big bang to electronic music in France. Indeed, Nhar awakens to electronic thanks to the southern rave scene, which since the early nineties is one hub of a kind in Europe owing to its leading events (Boréalis, Dragon Bal) and hyperactive collectives. Drummer in a metal band until he was seventeen, the artist then plunged into that breeding ground of activists and artists: the right time to combine the best tendencies from a booming European scene at that time. Soon he composed his first tracks. His first projects are released with 22 Crew; the duet formed with Kevin Scherschel, esteemed artist whose latest LP 22:22 has been released on Edelweiss/Module. An artistic potential emphasized with two EPs: The first one released on Modélisme, Sébastien Bromberger’s exemplary record label, the second one is a partnership with, Parisian figurehead DJ, Jennifer Cardini on Dirt Crew. Precisely at that time, the southern scene got its second wind owing to BarLive relentless activity, which has marked the French electronic scene until its permanent closure in early 2009. The after party venue in Montpellier whose fame has spread far and wide, offers him a regular residency. For three years, it allowed Nhar to hone his musical vision: “ BarLive surrounding brought about some change in my mixing style. There, I realized thanks to club music, I was able to convey more than rhythm, a real emotion”. The period coincides with the first releases under his solo alias, on best European labels: Mobilee, Plak, Meerestief, Bambù, Time Has Changed, Mina, Kina, Soniculture, Wir or Factor City. A collaboration with Cebb/Sébastien Thibaud an a remix of his track Nothingness by Falko Brocksieper, minimal techno leading light, are worth noting. At the same time, the artist remixes British pioneers Silicone Soul on Soma, Pablo Bolivar and Citizen Kain on Regular or Billy Dalessandro on Soniculture. In 2006, Hexoflip on Mobilee (Anja Schneider’s label) seals Nhar’ style: a deep and hypnotic techno emphasized with a spectral voice. It conveys an original flavour to the tracks, a kind of “melancholy euphoria” retaining a vivid but ghostly hint of humanity. Until then, it has become the producer’s trademark: a vocal chaudfroid establishing, on the artist instructions, a connection with his early dark- sounding musical background. So new influences have been added to electronic parameters such as those heard on Close Up, a groovy and at the same time almost neo-romantic track or Thelema, signed on Correspondant Jennifer Cardini’s new label: “instead of composing countless tracks of tech house and cold minimal, I’d rather turn towards more authentic trends”. Like Dante, mentioned on the eponymous track, Nhar explores, with a deep voice against a background of enveloping electronic music, untapped resources of human emotions.

Tomas Barfod
Tomas has played drums since he was 10 years old, but at some point in his late teens he bought a recordplayer, an Atari-computer and an Akai mono-sampler. He slowly started djing and producing music. Since then (late 90’s) he has been doing a variety of electronic music, both alone and together with different partners (fx. Kasper Bjorke) and on various important record labels. After some years in the electronic club scene live music was slowly catching in on him again, and he startet Whomadewho with two fellow danes, where he plays drums and produces. In general you could say his career has been rather diverse – basically he has been doing everything from ambient techno to Japanese pop. For Tomas Barfod the kickstart came with the 'Tomboy' acid / disco 12” series on Gomma records, shortly afterwards came releases on Get Physical, Kitsune and Turbo, where ‘Samba’ and ‘I.K. Guitar’ became clubbangers. Tomas also is a much requested remixer and has done remixes of such diverse artists as Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Gorillaz, Lance de Sardi, Telex, Chromeo, Asia Argento just to name a few. As a dj he has played legendary clubs like Fabric (London), Panorama Bar (Berlin), Bar 25 (Berlin), Goa (Roma), Magazini Genarali (Milan), Razzmatazz (Barcelona), Lux (Portugal), Social Club (Paris). Tomas has been involved in many different constalations. The most succesful is Whomadewho, who has released two albums and has been touring the whole world from New York to Sydney and been playing the most significant clubs and festivals like Sonar, Glastonbury, Melt and 10 days off. Whomadewho is now releasing on Kompakt. Jatoma his other trio was founded in january 2010 and within a year they had a record contract with Kompakt and had released their debut album with exceptional reviews – from DJ Mag to The Independant. Tomas was also the cofounder of Tartelet Records (with Fredski), they recently did two ep’s on Get Physical and the track ‘Swan Lake’ made it to the records bag of most important house djs and climed to number 7 at the main Beatport chart. In addition Tomas has been working with many danish acts from upcoming indietronica band Giana Factory to Punk legend Steen Jørgensen and majorleague producer Anders Trentemøller with whom Tomas produced the classic ‘Copenhagen’. Recently he produced ‘Bubububadub’ together with MHM 1, the track (which actually feature vocals by Whomadewho) made it to Loco Dice’s ‘The Lab’ complilation and in Ricardo Villalobos’ recordbag.

Kolombo
Olivier Grégoire aka Kolombo hails from the city of Namur, in the South of Belgium where he's been djing for a long while as well as promoting highly succesful parties. He has also been producing dance music since 2001but it took him a couple of years more to really master his art of modern production within many pseudonyms and dance music genres and a HUGE discography. He came to international proeminence trough King Kong records (Sharam Jey's label) for which he's been producing many electro-house Eps with his partner Djerom under the name of Loulou Players. The pair went on to remix artists such as Darren Emerson, Joachim Garraud, Zoo Brasil, John Acquaviva or Remo feat Cheleonis R Jones and became a hugely influential dj duo in the South of Belgium, playing huge raves and festivals. Carried by this succes, Olivier founded his own label, naturely named Loulou records but then felt it was time to start producing alone and started recording under his soon-to-be-big Kolombo moniker. He started to experiment new ideas and production techniques and made a mix between house, tech house & minimal and still with an club feel on labels such as Giant Wheel (with Ante Perry), Boxer, Hypnotic, Robotronic, Ladies and Gentlemen, Add2basket, Karate klub,... He was also spotted by Systematic records boss, Marc Romboy who created a sub-division of his label to release his Kolombo material call Viceversa and got him to remix Systematic artists under his real name, Olivier Grégoire as well as a full solo Ep on Systematic. He then hooked up with Belgian producer Compuphonic to release eps on Tiga's Turbo imprint for which he has also solo material lined-up. They also have remixed Cari Lekebush and the Presets (on Modular) and Martin Solveig. As a side project he's also producing deeper music together with Belgian house dj veteran Geoffroy (Hi-Phen, Suicide, SSR) as Mugwump whose recent eps on Mood Music, Misericord (Ewan Pearson's label), Disco45 (Rob Mello's label) and Kompakt have been causing a stir (imminent Mugwump remixes and tracks on Kompakt, Cocoon, R&S, Gigolo, Eskimo) The future looks bright with new material lined-up on Systematic, Turbo, Boxer, Hypnotic and many more as well as collabs n remixes all over with Compuphonic, Ante Perry,Oliver Klein, Mugwump and start a new deephouse projet with his cousin call Family Stuff...

Kölsch
Well known for his productions Rune Reilly Kolsch has sold millions of records all over the world under his many different monikers and production work includes some of the biggest artist in the world. But something has always been missing. Being a true techno head, paying homage to his underground roots is very important to him. So he started the slightly mysterious Tattoorecs with his brother Johannes Torpe, and together they are enjoying great success with their blend of romantic techno with strong influences from the heydays of Detroit and Chicago. With the label’s unique release concept of no titles, only tattoos, the label quickly gathered support from the biggest minimal DJs across the globe; Sven Väth, Richie Hawtin, Magda, Tiefschwarz and Ricardo Villalobos all support these weird and experimental releases. Ink & Needle are the only act signed to the label. A true playground for Rune with a focus on challenging the limit of what will work on a dance floor. And also an outlet for his more emotional side with a strong urge to reflect on his childhood and explore the Fantasy world he lived in during his young years as a kid of serious hippie parents. A similar thing can be said about the Avocado label that he runs with longtime hero and friend Jerome Sydenham. All releases under the Kolsch moniker are personal experiences from Runes childhood. For instance the track ‘Loreley’ stems from the legend of the sirens on the Rhein River where Rune spent all summers with his grandparents. Kolsch is definitely a labour of love and all releases have a strong emotional bond between them. A funny little story will have us know that Kompakt’s Michael Meyer once came across one of Rune’s Ink & Needle releases. Not only liking what he heard, he also paid attention to Rune’s last name Kolsch, which Cologne based Kompakt off course immediately recognized as the dialect spoken in and around Cologne. The result was a phone call to Rune with a request for a track to the label. This marked the birth of the Kolsch moniker, releasing exclusively on the German label. Half Danish, half Irish and half German. Is that a mind boggler for you? Relax dear music lover, it gets even more complicated. Let's (try to) outline the activities of Rune Reilly Kolsch's over the last 15 years. This will include numerous aliases, hundreds of releases and more labels involved than one could care to count. We’ll give it a try just the same… Late 80’s; Taking off from the kinda old skool hip hop as you would like to remember it - from under the Brooklyn Bridge with classic Adidas outfits, freestyle flows on street corners, block parties and all the trimmings - Rune soon got fed up with blunt blazing lazy rappers that never showed up on time in the studio. With his natural flair for making music that makes people move the shift to house music seemed obvious, and Rune soon grew deep roots in the inspiring Chicago and Detroit scenes. In 2005 Rune founded Arti Farti Records and released the single "Together" under the Artificial Funk moniker together with his brother. The single sold 200.000 copies in the UK. A couple of releases in, Arti Farti Records were a grand success with support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez and Josh Wink. A few years earlier however, in 2003, Rune had decided to slip in a little dance floor banger called 'Calabria'. It was an instant Ibiza favorite. 5 years later Rune released a new version of the track. This “Seemingly indestructible track”, as hailed by The New York Times immediately went on to demolish charts, radios and dance floors across the planet from the US to Ibiza and Shanghai. 'Calabria 2007' by Rune RK feat. Natasja (RIP) (Ultra Records) reached the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot US Dance Airplay chart, gathered a collective 50 million hits in the early Youtube days and sold 5 million singles worldwide. Now Rune Reilly Kolsch was playing any club and party worth mentioning around the globe; Berghain (Berlin), Nikki Beach (Miami), Love Parade (Berlin), Sensation Denmark, The End (London), Canadian Wonderland and Amnesia and El Divino in music mecca Ibiza, where ‘Calabria’ arguably was one of the biggest tracks for several seasons running. His own monthly intimate Club Smile parties at world renowned VEGA Natklub in hometown Copenhagen still stayed close to his heart as did his bimonthly parties at legendary Culture box. As one could expect, Rune’s worldwide stardom soon spawned production requests from the likes of Shakira and Flo-Rida and collaborations with prominent people like Pittbull and Lil Jon, Mims, Lumidee, Beenie Man, Nicky Minaj and Greg Nice (Nice & Smooth). Production request from Toni Braxton got turned down. Rune Reilly Kolsch has received 2 BMI Awards, 1 Danish Music Award (Grammy) and 9 Danish DeeJay Awards, 5 of them being in the Best DeeJay category – in the home country of friends like Trentemøller and Martinez. Whether it be selling 4 million singles of worldwide club classic 'Calabria', being one of Shakira's favorite producers or having industry leaders in the dance community going ape shit over Rune’s # 1 spot on the 2011 Miami Buzz Chart as Rune RK feat. Kelly Rowland "Free Fall" (WL), Rune Reilly Kolsch's producer skills are now more in demand than ever. Small talk trivia will have you know that Lady Gaga once warmed up for Rune RK in Detroit, he’s by far the best international selling Danish artist for several years running and Rune once brought a wheelbarrow to an award show to collect his awards in. Delusions of grandness…? Not a chance. “We were just trying to get as much press as possible,” laughs Rune. “It worked. No seriously, I work very hard and try to keep a very humble approach to the whole thing. The fact that people across the globe respond to my music and my DJing is a daily mindblower.”

John Tejada
Normally associated with his peers in techno from Detroit, Europe and elsewhere, John Tejada has embraced electronic music as a personal frontier, expanding on his resume as a techno recording artist as producer, remixer, DJ, and label owner. Known for crafting a brand of subtle, musical techno, his recorded output ranges across tempo and genre lines, from chilled out affairs with spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered, deeply energetic tracks that work magnificently in the hands of DJs as well as on the home stereo. John Tejada was born in Vienna, Austria on April 21, 1974. His parents, both professional classical musicians (his mother an opera singer and father a conductor) began his early piano training at the age of 4. In the summer of 1982, John would move with his mother to her place of birth, Los Angeles. It was that summer at the age of 8 another instrument would catch his eye, the drums. Teaching himself to play along to classic rock music, John quickly learned his way around the drum set (an instrument he still plays to this day in his I’m Not A Gun project). Everything changed however when he got his first taste of early 80’s hip hop music. The impact of those early productions and electronic experimentation was very strong. Soon after, at the age of 12 John was given his first set of turntables and a mixer. He wanted to figure out everything he was hearing DJs do at that time. His first gigs came at the age of 12 for his own school, DJing his school dances. Soon after his fascination with DJing began his fascination with production began. Just as he was completely determined to learn the tricks of local DJs, he now wanted to know how the music was made. His introduction came around the age of 15, when he ac quired his first looping delay. Soon after came his first workstation, an Ensoniq EPS sampler. This opened up a whole new world of possibilities. John spent every part of his day honing his craft. In 1991, while still in high school, John was already recording his first productions. He was also involved in college radio, even though he was just a junior in high school. John had a spot on “The Fly ID Show” with DJ Rob One. John produced the show’s first record for Rob and also went on to do some hip hop production on Ruthless Records. It was during this time that he met his long time collaborator and best friend Arian Leviste. The two met at a hip hop recording session in ‘91. John, already tired of the hip hop scene and where it was going, spent hours talking to Arian about acid house, techno, ambient house and everything they seemed to have in common. The two agreed they would meet weekly to compose material. It took some time before they would release any music, but in 1994 they pressed up their own single and that started a chain reaction of releases. John and Arian during this time also were accepted into Cal Arts’ (California Institute for the Arts) electronic music program, but both decided not to attend to hone their craft on their own. Soon after, John enjoyed a series of releases on European labels like A13, Multiplex, and Generations R&S. In the fall of 1996 he started his own label, Palette Recordings as an outlet to release his own productions without having anyone tell him how to do it. The demand for his music continued to grow and labels such as Ferox, Sino, Mosaic, Immigrant, Plug Research, Pokerflat and 7th City all released Tejada 12”s. John began traveling internationally in ‘97 to showcase his DJ skills around the globe, traveling to more than 20 countries and playing various clubs and festivals around the world. Festivals included Movement (formerly The Detroit Electronic Music Festival), Sonar Festival (in Spain and Tokyo), Dance Valley (Netherlands), Sync Festival (Greece), Mutek Mexico, as well as internationally known spaces such as Fabric (London), Yellow (Tokyo), Rex Club (Paris), The Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles) and many more. In 1999, John met classical jazz guitarist Takeshi Nishimoto, which was the beginning of another musical frontier. The two had a similar meeting as John and Arian had years before and began talking about making music. The project I’m Not A Gun was born and signed soon after to Berlin-based City Centre Offices. This project would bring back John’s own training as a drummer while also trying his hand at the guitar. The project became a mix of John’s own electronic productions along with Takeshi’s professional guitar playing and John’s drumming. The project has enjoyed great reviews and success the world over and the duo has performed live in LA, Japan and Germany. In the summer of 2004, John would - in one week - create the two songs that would catapult his techno career. The classic “Sweat On The Walls,” and “Mono On Mono” were released almost at the same time on two different labels. “Sweat” was released on Pokerflat and “Mono On Mono” on Palette. Together the two records sold over 23,000 copies on vinyl. This lead to the equally successful follow up singles “Paranoia,” “Mind Bend” (with more recent collaborator and Palette-signing, Justin Maxwell) “Voyager,” and “The End Of It All.” With dozens of singles and remixes to his credit, he has also produced full-length albums for Playhouse, Palette, Plug Research, deFocus, Moods and Grooves, Immigrant and A13. Tejada is now preparing "Parabolas", his debut album for KOMPAKT which will be available on June 20th, 2011. The first single release "Unstable Condition" will hit stores on May 2nd! For a complete discography please visit  http://www.discogs.com/artist/John+Tejada.

WhoMadeWho
WhoMadeWho may lack a question mark after their name but their music will certainly have you asking after them. The Copenhagen, Denmark trio is difficult to pin down but their music sounds as effortless as it is stylistically and sonically adventurous. WhoMadeWho are on a mission to eschew convention. The band formed in 2003, with falsetto voiced bassist Tomas Høffding coming from the Scandinavian rock underground, singer songwriter/guitarist Jeppe Kjellberg from the avantgarde jazz scene (with beard to match), and drummer Tomas Barfod – who also records as Tomboy – a rising star of electronic music. They released several 12-inches on lGerman disco label Gomma Records, culminating in their eponymous debut album in 2005, which won them a devoted audience who evangelized about their new favorite band, making it the sleeper hit of the year. While touring the globe the band started work on their second album. “The Plot” was released three years later, were it got great reviews across the board, culminating with the “Keep Me in My Plane” video that won a bunch of awards around the globe and was nominated for even more.  Because of the lengthy recording process with “The Plot”, the band matured sonically, making it a bit more pop, still with the distinct rock- and electro sound. As a live band WhoMadeWho are an unforgettable, incendiary experience having played alongside genre bending contemporaries Daft Punk, Soulwax, Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem as well as having their 1st album song “Space For Rent” covered by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age after seeing them rattling bones in their skeleton garb stage out fit.  Or as Brooklyn Vegan sums it up after having the band play their pre-SXSW show case in NYC:  ”(...) they were weird and awesome and won the initially-perplexed crowd over quickly. If you're going to SXSW, they're definitely a "don't miss" band.” Always using a foundation of beats and bass lines, the songs are then written on top, alongside the unusual additions of oboe, castanets, electro-synth or vocal harmonizing that pushes their music into the extraordinary. NME once asked ”God knows what would happen if they got serious?” That time is now! The skeletons are back in the closet. Alongside their extensive touring across Europe and Australia, WhoMadeWho have been working on a third and fourth album at the same time. April 18 WhoMadeWho will release the mini-album “Knee Deep” that will reveal a darker side together with their own take on party music as rumors have it that the Fall full-length album release will be a collection of organic electronically pop-songs. Outlandish getups aside, WhoMadeWho get serious on their new material. As always it will be full of playfulness and pumped rhythms that will put the room on fire and get the party started.   WhoMadeWho individually evangelize about 60’s psychedelia, 70’s stoner rock, 80’s mutant disco, 90’s electronica and this have resulted in their warped sound of now. They are so much more than a danceable rock band. They are the spark to a firework display of ideas. And they’re just about to light the blue touch paper for the third time. Don’t stand back! As Seattle paper “The Stranger” wrote after nominating WhoMadeWho’s 2010 South by Southwest performance as the best show of the festival: WhoMadeWho is not only “the rockingest dance band or danciest rock band but both the danciest dance band and the rockingest rock band.”  You can find their upcoming tour dates here.

Daniel Maloso
The Comeme caravan continues their trek to dance floor domination now coming out with Daniel Maloso - undeniably, the labels newest and biggest talent to be reckoned with. Maloso was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico representing a new sprouting breed of young latin american producers. As a multidisciplinary musician, producer and audio engineer he has been working with Matias Aguayo and the comeme crew in the past years doing acclaimed releases and trailblazing clubs around Europe. You might already know him thanks for helping co-produce the infamous "Guerrero" 12" serving out proven dance floor killers like  "Venganza y Seduccion". and for the desert disco psychedelia of the  "Desierto" 12". Maloso´s disco is undeniable -  creator of an already comeme favorite "Ritmo Especial" (Comeme 006) hailed by Bleep/Warp as one of the top tracks of 2010, plus you defintlley heard it in every DJ set Michael Mayer dished out over the past year. He's live shows are throbbing sweat drenching body music  found at the depths of drum machines, beats and monophonic synths with attitude at the microphone. A place where old and new collide! Those who have been lucky to catch a Comeme party on the recent Comeme European tour would have seen this force playing solo and sharing the stage with Matias Aguayo. Expect to see more of them together and more of his solo work coming out on Comeme.

Rainbow Arabia
Inspired by the purchase of a Lebanese synthesizer playing microtonal scales and lo-fi Eastern drum patterns, Rainbow Arabia began a escapist diversion from Danny and Tiffany Preston's day jobs. The demos they recorded, which were written and put to tape in a matter of a days, became their debut, The Basta. Barely existing for only a few months, the married couple were picked out of the ether by NYC sonic alchemists/kindred spirits Gang Gang Dance to support them on a cross-continental tour in 2008. Once they got back (and to their surprise) they quickly found themselves a legitimate act with acclaim from PITCHFORK, THE FADER, XLR8R, NME, in addition to a word-of-mouth groundswell for their fresh, contemporary East meets West take on the Sublime Frequencies catalog that inspired them so much in the first place. With a penchant for global pop and psychedelic tribal beats, Rainbow Arabia caught ears across the pond releasing the "Omar K" seven-inch on UK's Merok Records (Crystal Castles, Teengirl Fantasy) leading to their first European tour in 2009. Shortly after they released their follow-up digging deeper for inspiration from worldly found sounds, the Los Angeles-based duo's follow-up EP, Kabukimono, expanded the color palette of their Middle Eastern-tinged "fourth world" pop with darker industrial dancehall and comfortably sitting alongside brighter Caribbean and African flavors. Not interested in merely musical/cultural tourism, the Prestons shifted their focus outward in writing their first full-length album Boys And Diamonds. The inspiration that they found landed squarely in between future-thinking contemporary club music (techno, hip-hop, dubstep) and the organic globe-trekking dance music of the last century (reggae, ragas, gamelan) they've been known to draw from. Add in an affection for the 80s synth-pop they grew up on and the gothic influences informing Tiffany's teenage years specifically (Love and Rockets, OMD, Christian Death), and you have an interesting recipe that is utterly unclassifiable as it is repeatedly listenable. "Kaleidoscopic, intoxicated dance music made out of dervish rhythms, snakish melodica, and percussion procured from the labyrinthine corridors of some smoky souk." - Guardian UK "Creating the kind of noise you could imagine the DFA might make had they ever decided to throw a party in the underground ruins of Egypt, the ghosts of the Pyramids shaken into action by the sinuous rhythms and earth quaking basslines."  - 20JazzFunkGreats

Jatoma
Jatoma are all about the unknown and though they are new amongst us they remain cloaked in paradoxes and already questioned by many. Some think that one of the members is a famed producer amongst 2 genius teenagers. Others project they are a side act for a band held in the highest regard. Some will speculate they are just trying to get more attention by remaining unknown. The facts remain blurry and ambiguous but there remains an clear authenticity surrounding these factors – Jatoma are clearly one of 2010’s most inventive new acts our ears have had the pleasure to hear and it’s with our excitement we welcome them to Kompakt. So enter their self-titled debut full length – “Jatoma”. Brought upon an impromptu live jam session one cold weekend in January 2010, Michael Mayer at Kompakt was immediately drawn to their combination of the synthetic and the futuristic. So seek out the found yourself. Find the sounds of cutting carrots and cereal pouring into a bowl as they conjoin with the music of humanity such as handclaps and vocals together united with drums, guitars and electronics. The first track (and lead off single) “Little House Boat” flickers and modulates in a waterfall of harmonious oscillation. These sounds that are as hard to place as the members names and set a strong overall tone for this album which is Jatoma’s bubbling brook. The momentum of an acoustic 4/4 kick drum drives us through a blissful “Manipurma”, “Durian” has a groovy house momentum that chimes with the keys of a child’s imagination. “Bou” is a dance floor rollout that straddles the best of James Holden’s creative zeal and their apparent love for the subversive. Ambient crooners like “Permafrost” and “Ma10as” leave us washed to the shore gasping for breath only then to be submerged again by the unfathomable finale Luvdisc…or is it?

Sebastien Bouchet
Sebastien was born in France. During a visit with his aunt in London, UK, ten-year old Sebastien heard a sound that made him dance/weak/tremble. The medium was disco and the message was instant like the big bang. The loudest sound from nothing brought with it the first feeling of electronic music. A few years later in Paris, a tape from his older sister with a French touch and garage music was the fuel that drove him deeper into the universe of electronic music and accompanied him into his teenage years in Paris. It was all about nightlife activities, experiencing parties, and organizing them himself with a friend. Sebastien met a fashion photographer who brought him to a famous party in Batofar, and he soon began buying records in Katapult. He started to build up a collection of vinyl and discovered the special sound from Cologne. He soon laid his hands on a synthesizer and a drum machine and began to make music of his own. Obsessed by the minute details, he found inspiration in some artists and saw how most of them were from the German electronic scene. Sebastien found himself singing and playing synthesizer in the psychedelic band Aqua Nebula Oscillator. Singing like a choir with effects, rehearsing with long haired metal men - the influences were enchanting, but not quite his taste, and after half a year something else was calling. A longing started to grow in him: the horizons of another city. It was time to hit the autobahn. He put a tiger in the tank and drove to Germany. The years in Berlin were a seducing hotbed of art, music, going out, playing music and producing music.
