Jack White Unleashes Debut Album, 'Blunderbuss'

Jack White will release his debut solo album 'Blunderbuss' on 23rd April on his own Third Man Records.

Given his prodigious output it may come as a surprise that 'Blunderbuss' is his first solo album but the former White Stripes, Dead Weather, Raconteurs, Rome and Tom Jones collaborator will indeed step out alone with the first song from the album, 'Love Interruption' available to hear now on his website.

The forthcoming album is described by White as "an album I couldn't have released until now. I've put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas."

'Love Interruption' will be released as a limited 7" vinyl single, back with non-album track 'Machine Gun Silhouette' on 7th February. Pre-order yours now from the Third Man Website.

Noel Gallagher Preps New Single

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds are set to release their new single 'Dream On' on March 12th.

So Noel Gallagher is set to release another single. The songwriter's debut solo effort is still lingering around the Top Ten (or thereabouts) so he has every right to - plus it's to be expected, right?

However in order to give fans a little something extra, Noel Gallagher is set to pair 'Dream On' with something special. At his fateful press conference last year the guitarist revealed that he was working on a second solo album, this time with psychedelic beat crew Amorphous Androgynous.

A track from these sessions will occupy the flip of 'Dream On'. Titled 'Shoot A Hole Into The Sun' we genuinely have no idea what the track will sound like. However, here's the full 22 minute Amorphous Androgynous remix of Oasis' 'Falling Down' as a guide...

- - -

With 'Dream On' set to drop on March 5th, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds are due to focus on their upcoming British tour. Dates are as follows:

February
13 Manchester MEN Arena (SOLD OUT)
14 Aberdeen P&J Arena
16 Belfast Odyssey Arena (SOLD OUT)
17 Dublin The O2 (SOLD OUT)
19 Sheffield Motorpoint Arena
23 Newcastle Metro Radio Arena (SOLD OUT)
24 Glasgow SECC Hall 4
26 London The O2

Watch: Mark Lanegan - The Gravedigger's Song

The video for Mark Lanegan's new track 'The Gravedigger's Song' has emerge online.

Mark Lanegan hasn't released a solo album in almost eight years. Yet listening to his new record 'Blues Funeral' you get the impression of a songwriter who has never lost focus, never lost sight of his aims.

Out on February 6th, 'Blues Funeral' is eagerly awaited by fans. Ahead of the release, Mark Lanegan has issued 'The Gravedigger's Song' as a limited colour 7" vinyl and digital single, featuring a new version of 'Burning Jacob's Ladder'.

'The Gravedigger's Song' comes complete with a new video, pieced together by Alistair Legrand for The Masses. A quote from the director himself:

"Inspired by the song, I wanted to create something dark and elegant that took place inside of a haunted house. That's just what the song sounded like to me; a dream-like world of slow motion, macabre imagery. I also loved the idea of a video where you are finding unsettling things in the dark with a flashlight, you look even though you don't want to look. This probably comes from growing up on a wonderfully creepy farm. A story of sisters, ghosts and roses started to take shape as the video was shot."

Watch the video for 'The Gravedigger's Song' below...

Meanwhile, Mark Lanegan has confirmed plans to take ‘Blues Funeral’ to Europe next Spring. Announcing a series of shows, the American songwriter will hit the UK for the following dates:

March
4 Bristol Academy
5 Manchester Academy 2
7 Dublin Academy
8 Belfast Mandela Hall

Star Slinger Streams New Mix

Star Slinger is streaming a new mix to inaugurate his forthcoming club night Jet Jam.

The house resurgence has pushed new elements into the electronic palette. New producers are making their influence felt, and none more so than the epic, fuzzed, fucked up house jams of Star Slinger.

Watch: James Murphy In The Comedy

A clip featuring James Murphy in the upcoming film 'The Comedy' has emerged online.

What is a boy to do? Leaving LCD Soundsystem behind, James Murphy spent last summer spinning disco sets at some of the world's top festivals. Persuaded to try his hand at acting, the songwriter takes a hefty role in the upcoming Rick Alverson film 'The Comedy'.

Apparently playing an 'aging hipster' the role finds James Murphy reflecting on ennui in a modern, urban environment. Given its debut at Sundance, Jajaguwar reports that the film "removes the safe, rosy filter off of contemporary culture to give the audience a look behind the curtain at the cost of American Utopianism and its unintentional byproduct of numbness and disconnect."

Which kinda sounds like an LCD Soundsystem track, if we're honest. Check out a clip from 'The Comedy' below...

Islet Add May, June Tour Dates

Islet have outlined a series of British shows, running throughout May and June.

Islet don't say much. The Cardiff group run their own fanzine, which they use as an organ of communication with fans. Preparing their debut album 'Illuminated People' the band are letting their music do the talking.

Extremely difficult to pin down, 'Illuminated People' contains scratchy, open ended indie rock. Refusing to be closed off by styles or genres, Islet flirt with a number of influences but never quite consummate the relationship.

'Illuminated People' is out now, with Islet preparing a full British tour. Opening in Liverpool on May 25th, the dates run across the length and breadth of the country.

Hitting Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds and more the tour visits London on May 30th. Taking place at Cargo, the show is presented by ATP and finds the Welsh band taking their acclaimed debut to the capital.

Ending in Birmingham on June 1st, tickets for the upcoming nationwide tour are on sale now.

As a bonus, Islet are giving away the Tidal Barrage remix of 'This Fortune' - download it HERE and stream the original below...

Download: Spoek Mathambo - Let Them Talk

Spoek Mathambo is giving away new track 'Let Them Talk' ahead of his debut album.

What the hell is happening at Sub Pop? As if Shabazz Palaces weren't enough of a curveball, the label are now throwing THEESatisfaction and Spoek Mathambo at us.

Not that we're complaining you understand - especially when it results in the bizarre, twisted Afro-Futurism of Spoek Mathambo. Fusing rock music with Kwaito rhythms, the South African artists adds the crushing weight of Industrial.

Bizarre and impossible to place, Spoek Mathambo's debut album 'Father Creeper' comes out on March 12th. As a preview, the songwriter is making his new cut 'Let Them Talk' available as a free download...

Listen: Pepe Deluxe Podcast

Pepe Deluxe have recorded a pych-orientated mix for Ninja Tune's Solid Steel series.

Pepe Deluxe exist in a world of their own. The band's new album 'Queen Of The Wave' is so over the top, so ludicrously buoyant that it almost defies description.

At one point using the world's largest musical instrument, Pepe Deluxe squeeze vastly ambitious chunks of prog into a three minute pop framework. Wonder where they get their ideas from? Well a new podcast could provide the answer...

Old friends with the Ninja Tune crew, Pepe Deluxe recently dropped by the label's HQ to record a mix for their Solid Steel show.

Opening with some way out Japanese guitar fuzz courtesy of Takeshi Terauchi, the mix moves from Black Sabbath to Howlin Wolf, Van Halen to Steppenwolf. Containing rarities and classic cuts, the mix points out a few of the influences driving Pepe Deluxe.

Stream the mix below...

The Do Cover Janelle Monae

The Dø are streaming a fresh cover version of Janelle Monae's 'Tightrope' - listen to it now.

The Dø make a certain type of music. Exacting, cold, precise - definitely not funky. So when the ClashMusic team heard that the partly French, partly Norwegian group had covered Janelle Monae eyebrows were raised.

Pulled from her 'The ArchAndroid' set, 'Tightrope' has become the American performer's signature track. Funky in a James Brown sense, it is one of the more contagious cuts to emerge from the retro-soul boom.

Slowing the track down to a funereal pace, The Dø extract every ounce of funk from 'Tightrope'. Supplying something oddly affecting, the duo stretch the song out for a searing, redemptive nine minute journey.

Recorded at Studio Pigalle, you can stream The Dø's version of 'Tightrope' below...

Meanwhile, The Dø are focussing on their new single 'Gonna Be Sick'. Handing the stems to Scottish electro pop producer Mylo, the Caledonian beatsmith has supplied the duo with the following remix...

Coldplay Move Up Album Chart

Coldplay's 'Mylo Xyloto' is one of the week's biggest risers on the latest Top 40 chart.

Now a global phenomenon, Coldplay returned with 'Mylo Xyloto' last year. Notching up yet another number one, since then the band have been content to let the album become a slow burning success.

The New Year seems to have re-ignited their chart flair, with 'Mylo Xyloto' soaring up the charts. The prospect of a new European tour has sent fans out to music shops in their droves, pushing the album further up the Top 40.

The final figures for last week (w/c January 23rd) have been counted, with Ed Sheeran finding his way to number one. The solo star is quickly followed by Coldplay, who sit just behind Sheeran at number two.

Spending fourteen weeks on the chart, 'Mylo Xyloto' has enjoyed renewed success of late. Sitting at number two, Coldplay are just ahead of chart slaying Tottenham singer Adele and the ever present figure of Bruno Mars.

Rizzle Kicks are at number five, while Chris Isaak's new offering 'Beyond The Sun' enters the charts at number six.

A tribute album of sorts, 'Beyond The Sun' is themed around the output of Sun Studios. A legendary hub for rock 'n' roll, Rockabilly and country music, Chris Isaak has tackled some classic tracks.

Further down the charts, The Vaccines are at number eight with their loveitorloatheit debut album. 'What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?' sits one place ahead of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, with the former Oasis lynchpin turned solo star also looking to kick off a UK tour shortly.

The full UK Top Ten albums are:

1. Ed Sheeran - +
2. Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto
3. Adele - 21
4. Bruno Mars - Doo Wops & Hooligans
5. Rizzle Kicks - Stereo Typical
6. Chris Isaak - Beyond The Sun
7. Jessie J - Who You Are
8. The Vaccines - What Did Expect From The Vaccines?
9. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds

Watch: Mark Stewart x Primal Scream

The video for Mark Stewart and Primal Scream's recent collaboration 'Autonomia' has emerged online.

Pop and politics go together like oil and water. So Mark Stewart simply set fire to the oil.

Returning with a new collaboration heavy album, Mark Stewart has refused to go gently into the night. 'The Politics Of Envy' is a furious, subversive take on modern culture, political apathy, mass media and more.

Set to drop on March 26th, Mark Stewart is offering fans a short preview. Recently sitting down with Bobby Gillespie, the twin frontmen hit it off and decided to record a full track together.

Hitting the studio with Primal Scream, 'Autonomia' takes no prisoners. Telling the story of Carlo Giuliani, an autonomist protestor killed in the 2001 G8 demonstrations in Genoa, the track is a furious call and response chant.

A quote from Mark Stewart: "... afterwards I started getting on with Bobby, who was interested in politics and I asked Adrian (Sherwood) about doing it. It'?s important that people hear about the story, it?s the message and the atmosphere as much as anything.?"

Douglas Hart - Gillespie's former Mary Chain cohort - has taken charge of shooting a video for the track. Mirroring the cut's raw, vital feel you can watch the video below...

Spiritualized Delay New Album

Spiritualized have decided to delay the release of their new album 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light'.

J Spaceman isn't renowned for being prompt. The songwriter has earned a reputation for lengthy, grandiose space rock epics, with each song unfolding over the course some bands would take for an entire album.

So the news that Spiritualized's latest full length 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light' is set to be delayed doesn't come as a surprise. Speaking to Spin, J Spaceman revealed that he is still working on the final master.

Strangely, a version of 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light' has already been sent out to journalists with initial reviews beginning to appear. Confused? You should be...

”I had the rather foolish idea last November that I could deliver the record that’s been sent out and keep working on the real version,” Jason Pierce told Spin. “I’d meet the delivery date they need for reviews and things like that and nobody would be any the wiser that I’d be carrying on with the mixing.”

To make matters worse, the two 'final' versions of the new album will have a number of distinct differences. “I think it’s quite different" insisted the songwriter.

”People say that all the little mixing moves I’m doing now are just for myself, but to me they’re no different than the mixing moves I did at the start of the process. Balancing things is what mixing is. Some bits are more realized and closer to what I wanted them to sound like, but I’m in the unenviable position now where the album that’s out there isn’t finished.”

Meanwhile, Spiritualized are due to play a number of British shows in March. Full dates below:

20 Oxford Academy
21 Bristol Academy
