Mouse On Mars Preview New Album

Mouse On Mars are set to release their new album 'Parastrophics' on March 5th.

Mouse On Mars have been about. The electronic group have released a slew of albums, breaking boundaries on a near daily basis. Using a vast array of labels - Domino, Thrill Jockey, Ipecac and Rough Trade, to name a few - the band are now at home on Monkeytown.

Chaired by Modeselektor, Monkeytown are to provide a home for 'Parastrophics'. Due for release on March 5th, the album is the band's eleventh full length release.

The first new album from Mouse On Mars in some six years, the intervening time has not found Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner sitting idly. Between them, the pair have chalked up stints with The Fall and a German orchestra, continually pushing beyond expectations.

Re-uniting last year, 'Parastrophics' was apparently composed on musical software crafted by Mouse On Mars.

Out on March 5th, Mouse On Mars have offered fans a sneak preview of their new material. Stripped from the album, 'Chordblocker, Cinnamon Toasted' features guest contributions from Steven Jo.

Trailer Trash Tracys Unveil New Video

Trailer Trash Tracys have unveiled the video for their recent single 'Engelhardt’s Arizona'.

Trailer Trash Tracys are a thing to be savoured. The band spent a considerable time on their debut album, with 'Ester' gaining across the board critical plaudits on its release earlier this year.

The London band have always had a dramatic visual quality, and their new video 'Engelhardt’s Arizona' is a typically engrossing clip. The video works around a fairly simple set up, with Trailer Trash Tracys hidden in the shadows.

Multi-coloured lights fall on the band's faces, with the camera moving around them. On paper, it doesn't sound like much but when 'Engelhardt’s Arizona' is linked to visuals the effect is quite striking.

Watch the video for 'Engelhardt’s Arizona' below...

- - -

Meanwhile, Trailer Trash Tracys have been named 'Album Of The Month' at Rough Trade. As a result, the band will play an in-store at Rough Trade East tonight (February 2nd) - better be prompt!

if you miss that, then the London outfit will play support to tUnE-yArDs at her upcoming show at the Shepherds Bush Empire on February 15th.

Madonna On MIA, Nicky Minaj Collaboration

Madonna has spoken about her recent collaboration with M.I.A. and Nicky Minaj.

The Queen Of Pop is (almost) back. This time round, though, Madonna has decided to bring along some younger talent, with her upcoming single 'Give Me All Your Luvin' featuring both Nicky Minaj and M.I.A.

Set to air at the Superbowl Half Time show, Madonna matches her own vocals with that of two younger artists. Chatting to the New York Post recently, the singer revealed more about the collaboration.

"I'm a fan of their music but also I like their independence, their spirit," said the singer. "They're cheeky and unique and they have individual voices."

Continuing, Madonna said: "They're not conventional pop stars and I really admire them both. I love both of them actually."

Last year the singer revealed on Twitter that she had kissed Nicky Minaj. Explaining the background behind the incident, Madonna said that the two artists were celebrating Minaj's birthday.

"It was her birthday and it was actually the end of one of those long days of shooting and we were all giving a birthday toast to her," she divulged. "After a few sips of champagne I kissed her, yes."

Madona is set to roar back into the public gaze by taking control of the Superbowl Half Time show. One of the most watched events on the American sporting calendar, the singer will no doubt have something spectacular up her sleeve.

Chatting with Jay Leno on the Tonight Show recently (January 30th) the singer joked about Janet Jackson's infamous 'wardrobe malfunction'. "For sure, no nipples," she joked. "I wasn't gonna go there - I don't like to repeat myself."

Meanwhile, M.I.A. recently told Zane Lowe that she was also set to take part in the half time show. "Yes, I'm going to the Super Bowl… I'm gonna be performing with Madonna and Nicki Minaj... If you're gonna go to the Super Bowl, you might as well go with America's biggest female icons."

'Give Me All Your Luvin' is set to be released on February 3rd.

New Order Hint At Fresh Material

New Order frontman Bernard Sumner has suggested that the band could record new material.

The New Order reformation continues to roll. Earlier this week the Factory legends announced a UK tour, without their long time bass player Peter Hook.

In turns delighting and infuriating fans, the band have now suggested that new material could be in the pipeline. Speaking to XFM about the upcoming shows, Bernard Sumner explained that although the group are too busy to approach a new album just now, fresh material could potentially follow the upcoming tour.

"Not even thinking about (writing and recording) at the moment because our heads are really on playing live," he said. "It really is one day at a time – or one year at a time – and this year is playing live."

"Let's see (about working on new material)" continued the frontman. "Hopefully there'll be some recorded music as well."

Reforming last year to play two charity shows on the continent, New Order decided to continue with their re-union as 2012 dawned. Organising a short burst of Australian shows, the band then put fans out of their misery by announcing a brief British tour.

Opening on April 26th, the band will play a no doubt emotional show at Manchester's O2 Apollo. Continuing, the tour hits Birmingham on April 29th, before veering into the Brixton Academy on May 2nd.

Finishing on April 5th, New Order will bring the tour to a halt in Glasgow. Tickets for the upcoming shows go on sale tomorrow morning (February 3rd) at 9am.

New Order will play the following shows:

April
26 Manchester Apollo
29 Birmingham Ballroom

May
2 Brixton O2 Academy
5 Glasgow O2 Academy

Stream: The xx Control Aussie Airwaves

Members of The xx have taken control of a show on Australian radio station 94.5 FBi Radio.

The xx need to unwind. Sessions for their second album are stretching on, with the London group maintaining a blog to display some of the influences they are taking into the studio.

Deciding to escape the four walls of the recording studio, The xx recently took part in a Young Turks takeover of the Australian radio station 94.5 FBi Radio.

Jamie xx took charge of a full mix, dropping in a new track. Apparently called 'Touch Me' the piece is a typically emotive slice of distorted house, with plenty of bass textures and snare kicks to keep you moving.

Romy xx also pieced together a mix, which demonstrates her own under-stated approach to the decks. Showing eclectic taste, the DJ deftly moves from Elastica to the AOR of vintage Fleetwood Mac.

The full Young Turks takeover also contains a live session from Chairlift and a mix from Bullion. Missed out? Well, you probably did (unless you live in Australia) but Young Turks have helpfully uploaded the show into their SoundCloud account.

Cloud Nothings Digital Bonanza

Cloud Nothings are continuing to promote their new album, by releasing a free download and a new video.

Out now, Cloud Nothings' second album 'Attack On Memory' is an assault from start to finish. The band's most provocative document yet, the album benefits from Steve Albini's typically raw production.

Feeling left out? Well now is the time to catch up. Cloud Nothings have decided to give 'No Sentiment' - a sparse, powerful, moody piece of rock music that doffs its cap towards the early 90s without losing sight of 2012.

Elsewhere, the band have unveiled the video for 'No Future / No Past'. Directed by John Ryan Manning, you can watch the video below...

Toro Y Moi Prepares Box Set

Toro Y Moi has pieced together the new 'June 2009' box set, focussing on his early material.

Sit thee down, children, and ClashMusic will tell you a tale...

Once there were a few producers in the Untied States who made fuzzy electronic music, often utilising samples from the unfashionable end of the 80s spectrum. And lo! Chillwave was born, and a blog meme swept across the globe.

Except it wasn't quite as simple as that. Toro Y Moi laboured for years as plain ol' Chazz Bundick, working on material which had a slightly different flavour.

Now the producer - together with long time home Carpark - have pieced together a new boxset. Drawing primarily on a tour release, 'June 2009' focusses on a pivotal period in his work - when Toro Y Moi really came into being.

Available from April 23rd, 'June 2009' will be available on 7 inch vinyl box set / CD / digital formats. Grab 'Dead Pontoon' below...

Frightened Rabbit Highland Shows

Frightened Rabbit have outlined plans for a tour of the Highlands, mixing solo shows with full band dates.

The Highlands appear to have become quite the hot destination for any new group with a folk bent. Mumford & Sons started the trend, while Laura Marling has also become enamoured with Scotland’s Northern lands.

Now Frightened Rabbit have confirmed plans for a full tour of the Highlands. However the band have a greater claim to the venture than most. The five piece are actually Scottish for a start, while Frightened Rabbit are also known for disappearing off into the North to focus on new material.

Currently hard at work on their fourth album, Frightened Rabbit are planning to air new tracks on their Highland jaunt. ClashMusic recently tracked down frontman Scott Hutchison to discuss the band's recent writing sessions, the singer had the following to say:

“It’s written, essentially. So we’re just trying to chose a producer. We’re trying to figure that out. It’s written and it’s really exciting material. It’s different enough but it’s still ourselves, y’know? It’s dark. We’re experimenting with minor keys, which is actually new for us – we’re quite a major key band. Fuck me, I’ve done – what – three albums now and not many minor key songs. So we’ve been experimenting with that. Spooky.”

Exciting stuff.

Scott Hutchison is set to play five solo shows around the Highlands, before hooking up with Frightened Rabbit for a number of full band dates.

Tickets for all shows go on sale at 9am this Friday (February 3rd).

Frightened Rabbit are set to play the following shows:

April
11 Gourock Cafe Continental
12 Perth Twa Tams

Manic Street Preachers Hit Europe

Manic Street Preachers have announced plans for a full European tour focussing on their recent compilation 'National Treasures'.

Released last year, 'National Treasures' seemed to underline just how potent Manic Street Preachers can be. A singles collection, it matched together some of the band's most essential material to date.

Quite the definition...

Opening in Copenhagen on April 15th, the shows continue with dates in Hamburg, The Hague, Amsterdam, Cologne and more.

Ending in Barcelona - the city which inspired the band's first number one single 'If You Tolerate This Then Your Children Will Be Next' - tickets for the upcoming tour are set to go on sale shortly.

Watch: Feist - The Bad In Each Other

Feist has unveiled the video for her forthcoming single 'The Bad In Each Other'.

If last year's 'Metals' saw Feist steal your heart all over again, then the Canadian songstress has no intentions of giving it back any time soon. New single 'The Bad In Each Other' will be released on March 26th, and comes equipped with a video directed by Martin De Thurah.

Shot in Mexico, Feist has offered the following quote about the video:

"When I approached Martin to make a little film for this song, he told me he thought it sounded like a battle cry. And that he wondered about finding the little, tiny wars people experience in between the big dramas. I interpreted that to mean, all the quiet internal battles that guide our actions, all the hopes and struggles we suppress or let carry us away. I feel like he's made a sort of symphony of In Betweens and stretched split seconds into feel-able, graspable echoes."

Watch the video below...

- - -

Feist isn't set to disappear any time soon, having been nominated for Best International Female Solo Artist at the Brit Awards 2012.

Also set to headline this year's instalment of The Green Man, the Canadian artist has outlined the following UK shows:

March

26 Manchester O2 Apollo

Stream: F*cked Up Zodiac Singles

Fucked Up are streaming each of their ‘Year Of The Zodiac’ singles, with new instalment ‘Year Of The Tiger’ due to be released on February 6th.

Are Fucked Up set to come to an end? Reports at the tail end of last year indicated that the Canadian group could be set to call it quits, with Pink Eyes openly doubting if he was able to sustain the band’s punishing schedule.

With that in mind, now is as good a time as any to re-visit Fucked Up’s Chinese Zodiac series. On a semi-regular basis since 2006 the band have delivered a 12 inch single, written to coincide with the Chinese New Year celebrations.

The latest release – ‘Year Of The Tiger’ – is set to be released on February 6th, and to toast the occasion Matador have crafted a handy widget containing each of the singles.
Free to stream, ‘Year Of The Tiger’ will be added on its release.

Photek Helms Next DJ Kicks
Photek - DJ Kicks

Photek is the man at the controls for the next DJ Kicks release, out on March 26th on !K7 Records.

Talking about his aim for the album, Photek says “I wanted to create one of those classic listening experiences. With a mix like this, you can either bang it with the most current dancefloor tunes, or you can put a theme into it, or you can make it a journey. There was such a range of styles on there, they were so timeless and had real character. They had some personality. That’s what I wanted to capture with my DJ-Kicks mix.”
