Joachim Cooder has traveled the world wide playing music with his father, roots guitarist Ry Cooder. After years as his dad's sideman, Joachim finally decided to take the reins and set out on his own to create Love on a Real Train, a collective featuring Cooder and some of his closest friends.

"I hadn't had any big plans for this music originally. My wife, Juliette Commagere, and I had just moved into this great little bungalow on a hill in Echo Park with a beautiful view of the Griffith Observatory and a tiny little studio downstairs," Cooder tells Spinner. "Everyday during sunset I would sit down there, look out through the trees and score the view. It was mainly just what I wanted to listen to as I looked out at the pink L.A. sky. I'd always get to a certain point and then move on."
