Spiritualized have decided to delay the release of their new album 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light'.
J Spaceman isn't renowned for being prompt. The songwriter has earned a reputation for lengthy, grandiose space rock epics, with each song unfolding over the course some bands would take for an entire album.
So the news that Spiritualized's latest full length 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light' is set to be delayed doesn't come as a surprise. Speaking to Spin, J Spaceman revealed that he is still working on the final master.
Strangely, a version of 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light' has already been sent out to journalists with initial reviews beginning to appear. Confused? You should be...
”I had the rather foolish idea last November that I could deliver the record that’s been sent out and keep working on the real version,” Jason Pierce told Spin. “I’d meet the delivery date they need for reviews and things like that and nobody would be any the wiser that I’d be carrying on with the mixing.”
To make matters worse, the two 'final' versions of the new album will have a number of distinct differences. “I think it’s quite different" insisted the songwriter.
”People say that all the little mixing moves I’m doing now are just for myself, but to me they’re no different than the mixing moves I did at the start of the process. Balancing things is what mixing is. Some bits are more realized and closer to what I wanted them to sound like, but I’m in the unenviable position now where the album that’s out there isn’t finished.”
