Neil Young is back recording with Crazy Horse, and two albums could be in the works.
Of all the musicians Neil Young has worked with, the Canadian songwriter is most readily associated with Crazy Horse. The singer's long time cohorts, the bond between them runs far beyond music.
Yet Neil Young hasn't released a new album with Crazy Horse since the 2003 concept album 'Greendale'. All that could change, however, with news breaking that the songwriter has returned to the studio with Crazy Horse in tow.
Neil Young fan site Thrasher's Wheat broke the news, reporting that the singer announced the plans to record with Crazy Horse at the Slamdance festival.
Rolling Stone have since verified the news, which was also announced by Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina on his Facebook page.
Strangely, there could even be two studio albums from Neil Young & Crazy Horse in the works. Currently planning new material, the group could return to a project which the Canadian songwriter shelved in 2000.
Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2008, Neil Young reflected on the project which was provisionally titled 'Toast'. "It's great rock & roll, very moody, kind of jazzy," he said.
"It's really dark. It's got everything that the best Crazy Horse albums have had. It won't be the most commercial Crazy Horse album ever out."
Thrasher's Wheat reports that Neil Young claimed to be working on two albums - one which was finished, and one which had barely begun. Could the completely project use the 'Toast' sessions?
As ever with Neil Young, we'll just have to wait and see...
