Put Your Back N 2 It
The title of Perfume Genius' second album may suggest exertion, and the first sound you hear when you listen to it is a deep, labored breath, but the music's execution and emotional impact feel more like letting go.

Ones To Watch - Theme Park

Theme Park are four whip-smart Londoners intent on making dark, danceable pop music. Fronted by Miles Haughton, and including his twin Marcus, the quartet sent the Internet gaga last year when they posted their first tracks. The wonky, Talking Heads-like ‘Wax’ and the elegant glide of recent single ‘Milk’ marked out Theme Park’s sonic territory.

“Marcus and I have been writing music in bands for years,” Miles tells Clash. “When this project began we wanted to have a lot of rhythm - because that’s what we didn’t have in previous bands - and for the songs to have a groove.”

After completing their first UK tour with school alumni Bombay Bicycle Club (“the shows were energetic and people danced at them,” Miles beams), Theme Park are now steadily building up to a debut album. “It’s the major thing we are thinking about, to be honest. We have a couple of months before we start doing gigs again, so we are writing, writing, writing. The new songs are slightly more melancholic.”

Next month sees Theme Park open for Florence And The Machine at Alexandra Palace and Miles is thrilled at the opportunity. “It’s our most exciting gig yet,” he reveals. “We are from North London, and I was always going up to Ally Pally so it will be our ‘hometown’ gig.”

Having been touted by a variety of tastemakers, 2012 could be a rollercoaster (ahem) year for Theme Park. Miles, however, is reluctant to get too caught up in the ride. “The publicity stresses me out in some ways,” he admits. “So, our focus is that while it is great if people are talking about us, we just have to do as good an album as possible. It is lovely to be a Clash Ones To Watch, but it just makes me want to go and write more songs.”

The Next Step

In physics, after any explosion, things are pushed in various directions, the same principle applies to the after-grammy momentum that Dubstep is getting. The bottom line is that dubstep producers make music for people to enjoy, either at the clubs or the intimacy of their own homes.  This late success for the Dubstep community is ultimately a success for the whole industry, Brilliant collabs like Skrillex and Korn, Deadmau5 and Foo Fighters, and Mad Decent's own Rusko and Cypress Hill are casting light on what the mainstream has been missing out on, and this illumination will only serve to benefit those who follow in these producers footsteps; some of them will choose a more mainstream sound, while some will go with a more underground sound.  At the end of the day it is us, the listeners who will get a much higher quality of music and the talented producers will have a much better chance of being able to focus on the potential of developing their music rather than struggling to support their musical aspirations through various survival odd-jobs.

In this post we will present some of the dubstep acts we feel you should keep an eye out for and hopefully support.  As usual when we do this kind of post, we encourage people to comment and let us know which relevant acts we might be missing out on!

Let's begin with some hip hop and Dubstep from Rusko and Cypress hill.

Morning Parade, 'Us & Ourselves' -- Video of the Day

Filed under: Video of the Day

Artist: Morning Parade
Video: 'Us & Ourselves'
Highlight: "Life is a weird journey and one that I often find quite confusing. The only constant in the life that I've experienced is change and the song is about outgrowing yourself and your surroundings," vocalist/guitarist Steve Sparrow tells Spinner. "We all spend our lives being a million different people at once and its easy to lose yourself along the way, it can also be very lonely yet every single one of us start and end our lives in the same way. I always thought it was crazy, all of these people alone but sharing the experience."
